In May 2024, whilst recovering from a debilitating bout of whooping cough and feeling quite useless and unproductive, l decided to turn my attention to all the ignorance, hate and negativity directed toward trans people and drag artists.
Did you know at that time there were over 500 pieces of legislation in the US targeting them and that drag had been banned in two states? Don't even get me started on the transphobia and the negative trans sterotypes portrayed in TV and film!
I much prefer to see these people empowered and not torn down!
So l decided it was time to change the narrative, and penned a film treatment: Aliens vs Drag Queens was born.
Unlike the Aliens franchise, where in every movie each member of the crew is picked off one by one until one (female) triumphs by blowing it out of an airlock, this movie treatment is an action comedy that focuses on how differences can be celebrated rather than feared. The drag queens' creativity and resilience both inspires and reminds the aliens to appreciate the beauty of individuality and identity, while the aliens' situation offers the queens new ways to enhance their performances and combat the attack both from invading forces and at home!
In the end, it's not just about a clash of worlds, but a fun and harmonious blend of cultures, teaching audiences through comedy that true strength lies in diversity and acceptance.
Sending love to all those people hurting in our community❤️
